| The speeches in counties that belong to Mianyang, together with Shehongand Xichong in Sichuan province are generally attributed to Southwest mandarin. However, the speeches in these counties have their unique phonetic features beside thegeneral features of Southwest mandarin. While dealing with the classification of thesespeeches, Huang Xuezhen and Lilan have some different opinions on it. It is verynecessary for us to make an systematic investigation of the phonetic system of thespeeches there to make a better understanding of the dialects in Mianyang dictrict. The related theories and research methods of experimental phontics, Chinesedialectology, histiorical comparative linguistics and linguistic geography will be appliedin this paper. Focusing on ten counties—the downtown Mianyang, An county,Beichuan, Pingwu, Zitong, Jiangyou, Yanting, Santai, Shehong and Xichong, we will dosome systematic decription of their phonetic systems synchronically and do somedetailed comparison of their historical phonetic change diachronically. Also, relatedmaterial of immigration history will be refered to do some deeper exploration of thegeographic distribution of the speeches there and the linguistic relation between them. This thesis consists five parts altogether. The first part is introduction, the researchachievements and geographic information of the areas investigated, as well as theresearch methods and declaration of the symbols to be used in this thesis will beintroduced in this part. The second, third and forth part are the main body: in part two,the phonetic data of seven newly investigated counties will be published with thedescription of their phonetic systems and acoustic phonetic features by using themethods of experimental phonetics; in part three, with the coordinates of Qieyun system, some horizontal phonecit system comparison of the ten conties will be discussed, including comparisons on initial, vowel and tone; in part three, we applied the material of immigration history to further explore the relation between “Huguang fillingSichuan†and the current status of dialects in Mianyang district. The fifth part isconclusion part. |
