In the creation of black and white woodcut, themes and backgroundsmust have contrast in lightness. The way to play black, white and gray colorsmartly and effectively to represent the woodcut is a key to success inwoodcut creation. It is also crucial for the representation of the uniquecharm of the woodcut by successfully transforming one’s concept and sketchdrawings to woodcut prints with these colors. The author conducts researchon black, white and gray color design rules and representation methodsapplied in woodcuts in particular, combined with social practice and theory ofart. The author has brought up his own perspective towards thecontemporary woodcuts with the extensive use of gray tone. He has his owncreative thinking applied into his graduate creations, laying an initialfoundation on his own features.
