A Project Report On The Translation Of Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out

Mo Yan, the first Chinese national to win the Nobel Prize for literature, is considered one of the most dynamic, creative and outstanding writers in contemporary China. While his works are getting more and more attention, how to translate cultural information as well as folk colloquialism in his novels has been recognized as a thorny issue for a lot of translators at home and abroad.Due to cultural differences, dealing with the transmission of the intercultural and interlingual information will inevitably encounter the loss or distortion of the original information, which requires that the translator should choose proper and appropriate translation strategy.In this project, some chapters in Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out are picked out for translation based on the theory of creative treason. Through the translation practice of cultural information and folk colloquialism involved in these chapters, the project report tries to elaborate on the specific translation strategy employed, and hence combined with an analysis of the English version translated by Howard Goldblatt demonstrates that it is important and essential to adopt creative treason in literary translation.Through the analysis and the summary, this report is aimed at not only improving the author’s competence in literary translation but also giving assistance to the similar translation practice in the future, in order to attain the ultimate goal of the information transfer to the greatest extent.
