Drama is not only a part of the literary art, but also a branch of performing art. In this sense, theatrical text should be literary enough to be appreciated by readers and theatrical enough to be enjoyed by audience. Drama translation requires coherence and literariness; it also requires the characteristic of spoken language in line with people’s daily communication habits. The study of drama translation has to focus on both the text and the dramatic performance. Instead of just translating from source language to target language, drama translation also should consider such four aspects as spoken language, audio visual, action as well as audience’s acceptance, so as to achieve the best stage effect. The report takes Death of a Salesman which is the American famous drama as the project and some parts of the play are retranslated. It discusses the difficulties in the translation process from two points:the colloquialism of drama language translation and the popularization of culturally-loaded words translation. After comparative analysis of Chinese versions translated by Chen Liangting, Ying Ruocheng and the reporter, the report analyzes the difficulties from three aspects:colloquial expression, concise language and prominent personality. Some problems are found in the reporter’s translation and corresponding solutions are proposed. In order to make the version suitable for the stage, the methods of omission, flexibility and application should be adopted in drama translation. Through the discussion of the report, the reporter is enabled to know more about the theories and methods of drama translation, and it is hoped that this report can urge other translators to pay more attention to the "performability" of drama translation so that the audience can enjoy the theatrical versions of a higher quality.
