The"Image Turn"in Picture Era has changed the "Way Of Seeing",which has a deep and broadeffect on the reading habit of modern readers as well as function of novel illustrations,thuschanged the relationship between illustration and the text. The develop and blossom of newmediums push pushed the traditional paper medium to hard situation and thus threatened thelife of novel illustrations, despite the fact that it also posed new chance of self-evolution andthe of new-type novel illustrations. Obviously the novel illustrations with its traditionalnarrative methods fail to satisfy their audience with the cotemporary minds. Novel illustrationspublished in Picture Era have gradually and critically develop their new view of therelationship between illustration and text, which in turn produce some special forms andreading effects. By analyzing the new characteristic of this new relationship can the authormade deep analyzation and understanding of the special appearance changes of modern novelillustration,which may make a contribution to the future creation of illustration.The authordivided the novel illustrations into three parts by their narration mode: literary(word-to word)narration, vague narration and situational narration, upon which further study was made to eachnarration type finding out three main pic-text relationships: consistence,self-narration andself-formation. The author pointed out the emerge of vague narration in NI is reasonable andinevitable as it was the result of both the self-evolution of the illustration and the naturedevelopment of modern ways of reading.
