The Narrative Characteristics In Chinese Scientific Documentaries

Science documentary in China, as a kind of relatively new film form, is the achievementof fusion and reformation of existing science and educational film, and documentary in China.Science and records in China, have experienced four periods, from "science saving the nation","science and technology are practical" and "the strategy of revitalizing China through scienceand education" to currently "scientific development perspective".The morphology of thefilms develops from science and educational film to popular-scientific film, and finally formstoday’s science documentary. We can say that the science documentaries of the sciencedevelopment period have experienced the historical transformation and passed theexamination of time.In today’s background of globalization development, the improvement of national softpower and effective communication of scientific information have become the main goals ofthe new period. Therefore, as a media vehicle of spreading scientific information, it shouldtake the responsibility of duty and mission for scientific education. In addition, it should playa decisive role in promoting the improvement of national scientific quality, enhancing nationalcomprehensive competitiveness, and increasing our international communication ability. Then,how to spread the scientific information more efficiently and vividly becomes the researchtarget at present.Science documentary contains in the category of documentary. With the increasingcomplexity of the scientific theory and the constant progress of image recording means,breakthrough progress of digital film technology has been made at this time. Thus, thenarrative concept of science documentary has gradually begun to separate from thedocumentary body, and its narrative structure, method and other aspects have gradually showna distinctive style.Therefore, this paper chooses the narrative features of China science documentary as thetarget, making a detailed analysis and imagining the development of them. This paper isdivided into five chapters in total. The first chapter is the theoretical tool, presenting thedefinition and characteristics of the science documentary, as well as its development rheologyin China and other foreign countries; The second chapter is the narrative and scientific record,clarifying the meaning of narration and the narrative philosophy of the science documentary;The third chapter is the highlight of the thesis and it takes Chinese Central TV program-Exploration· Discovery as an example, trying to make a detailed analysis of the aspect of thecurrent science documentary, the structure of narration as well as the narrative language.Based on the analysis of the preceding chapter, the forth chapter discovers problems and putsforward some shortcomings and doubts about narrative strategies of China’s sciencedocumentary films. The fifth chapter is about the hypothetical solutions and futureexpectations on the issues that were pointed out.
