In recent years, with the rapid development of the Internet, an increasing numberof network new words have emerged, which are widely prevalent in our daily life. Inthe network era, network new words play a vital role in advancing the development ofthe Chinese language. As the most distinctive part of the Chinese words, network newwords should be given high priority. In order to help foreign learners better learnChinese and effectively conduct communication, learning basic words is far fromenough. Nevertheless, based on the analysis of the relevant materials, it can beconcluded that the teaching and application of network new words in the field ofTeaching Chinese as a foreign language are few and far between. Under thiscircumstance, the thesis aims to analyze and explore network new words in Chineselanguage teaching.Three writing methods are employed to study the materials of Teaching Chineseas a foreign language so as to inject new vitality to the traditional vocabulary teaching.They are documentary method, investigation method and comparative method.Characterized by conciseness, vividness, humorous meaning, continuous updatingand expressiveness, network new words have been a concern in the field of TeachingChinese as a foreign language.The thesis is made up of five parts.The first part is the introduction which mainly illustrates the relevant researchbackground and the significance of the research. As well, current status of networknew words and research methodology are presented.The second part provides the summary of network new words. Based on theidentification of different concepts of network language and network new words, thischapter describes the reasons for its emergence and analyzes the characteristics andclassification of network new words.The third part explains the necessity of network new words in Teaching Chineseas a foreign language. This chapter focuses on three aspects. First aspect is therequirements of daily teaching and communication. Second aspect is the status ofnetwork new words in Teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The third aspect explores the positive role of network new words in promoting learners’ initiative andcommunicative ability so as to have a better understanding of Chinese culture.The status and existing problems in Teaching Chinese as a foreign language arediscussed in the fourth part. Based on the analysis of the outline vocabularies, theauthor concludes the summary and analysis of network new words in TeachingChinese as a foreign language and the research on foreign students’ cognition of thenetwork new words. In addition, the author explores the limitation of network newwords in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The fifth part gives some teaching strategies and suggestions concerningnetwork new words in Teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Hopefully, theelaboration could draw the attention to network new words in Teaching Chinese as aforeign language and contribute to the teaching of network new words to some extent.
