| The process of translating consists of not only the mutual exchange oflanguages, but of some differences of thinking way. Both the use of languages andthe perceptions of thinking way are confined to the cultural context, as a result ofwhich is one of key factors influencing the translating. The comparison between twocontexts results in the cultural difference. For a translator, his perceptive ability ofcultural difference decides the perceptive ability and effect of translating, whichleads itself to demanding the translator for more attentions and interests to make acomparative study between SL and TL cultures, and paces the way for theperceptions of language thinking way.Culture itself reflects a big topic, i.e. a systemic engineering, while the study oncultural comparison is concerned with the fields of humanities and social sciences.How shall a translator find, based on translating, a simplified and efficient linkbetween bilingual cultures for the perception of cultural differences as the mainpurpose and for the understanding of different thinking way as the means, thenfurther broaden the horizon of translation?The time concepts between China and West are evidently different, while timetends to be permanent and supernatural. Therefore, time cultural difference can beused as the link to perceive the Chinese and English cultures.This dissertation aims at studying the perception of Sino-western time culturaldifferences and the promotion of perceptive ability of translation. Observationalresearch is adopted by the author who wants to explore a new way----time concept asa tie joint, to make a Sino-Western cultural comparison. So a translator will beculturally stimulated by strengthening the perceptive ability of cultural differencesand by understanding the differences of thinking way on languages, in order topromote the perceptive ability of translating. More correctly, it is also sort of thinkingway of perception, which is expected to supplement the translating methods and objectives, deepen the horizon of cultural comparative study, understand somecommon-seen cultural mistakes, and answer some cultural dilemmas. Finally, thisthinking way of perception will be converted to be a disputation----a reflection whichaims to update, drive, change, perfect, and serve the Chinese culture. |
