A Report On The Translation Of Construction Scheme

Nowadays, under the context of informationization, industrialization and globalization, sci-tech translation plays a role of roll booster in sharing the outcomes of sci-tech development, strengthening international communication and cooperation, and promoting the global development of economy and society. As the exchanges of science and technology between China and other countries become more frequent, the quality of sci-tech translation directly affects the dissemination of the advanced outcome of our country. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the level of Chinese-English sci-tech translation and overall quality of translators.Features of technical texts are preciseness, conciseness and standardization. Sci-tech translation should transfer these features in the target language. However, Chinese and English differ greatly in expression and sentence structure due to different cultural backgrounds and modes of thinking. In this thesis, the author analyzed the differences between Chinese and English in the way of expression and sentence structure from four perspectives:parataxis and hypotaxis, topic-prominent and subject-prominent, bamboo structure and tree structure, dynamic and static. To deal with the difficulties in Chinese-English sci-tech translation, including the translation of technical terms, long sentences and sentences without subject, and the expression of the implied logical relations, the first thing the translator should do is to grasp the differences between Chinese and English languages so that the translation could be more comprehensible for target readers.This report is based on the author’s translation practice of the Construction Scheme of S Group. Through analyzing the lexical, syntactic and stylistic features of the source text and several aspects of Chinese-English Contrastive Study, the author puts forward several methods to translate the difficult points in the source text. Moreover, from the translation practice, the author makes a conclusion of what Chinese-English sci-tech translators should do to improve their overall quality to meet the challenges in the new era. Chinese-English sci-tech translators ought to improve their language competence, acquire and apply translation techniques, develop team spirit, improve the ability to learn and update knowledge of science and technology, learn to use translation tools, and foster a high sense of responsibility for work.
