Jane Austen is a famous British novelist in the19th century. Due to her ups and downs of life and distinctive writing style, she has attracted thousands of readers all over the world. From1811to1817, Austen creates six prevalent novels, which elevates her to legendary status.Mansfield Park is written in1814, which is concerned about love and marriage between young men and women. Once the novel is published, it begins to receive great critical acclaim. The Regency critics are very appreciative of humanistic morals of this novel, and modern critics have also pointed out that the heroine Fanny has complex personality and shows extraordinary courage and self-respect in later part of the story.In the novel, the heroine Fanny is such a female which has a rich and powerful spiritual world. The novel mainly deals with the development of Fanny’s inner life and reveals the process of her maturation. Although Fanny is in a weak position in the patriarchal society, she has keen observation and persistence, so she finally breaks through the bondage of various contradictions in society and sets the perfect marriage. The paper analyzes the novel by applying the theory of the feminism. The paper indicates that women should pay attention to their own inner feelings, keep their own independent personality, and rely on themselves to achieve the value of life.The paper consists of four parts.Chapter one is a brief introduction of the novel and the author. This chapter also includes the literature review of this novel. Austen is known as the writer who can enjoy the same status with Shakespeare, and she makes the literature of arriving at culmination. Mansfield Park is a novel with deep implications. The paper is an attempt to explore the novel from feminist perspective.Chapter two introduces feminism. Mansfield Park can be regarded as a feminist novel because it is concerned about the marriage and the destiny of women. Feminism aims to expose the living conditions of women and to change the women’s oppressed status. Feminism suggests women should choose their marriage and pursue great happiness.Chapter three reflects female consciousness of Fanny. In the face of difficulties, she carries a positive and optimistic attitude towards life. As for marriage, she pays attention to inner feelings and is eager for true love. With regard to patriarchal oppression, she tries her best to resist and breaks the shackles finally. Each woman has right to decide her marriage and life. As for the maintenance of personal integrity and freedom of choice, Fanny has set a good example, because she defends innate and deserved rights.Chapter Four describes the reward she gets due to her female consciousness. Through her efforts and struggle, Fanny owns a happy family, a perfect marriage and she can be respected by others. What’s more, her brilliant female image is recognized and passed on by her little sister, and Fanny lives a happy life in Mansfield forever.From the above-mentioned parts, we can draw a conclusion that only women keep independent personality, they may have a perfect marriage and a happy family. Austen pays attention to the marriage and the destiny of women all the time, and Mansfield Park is a typical novel to explore the feminine consciousness. Through the analysis of the novel, the paper is to arouse women’s attention to struggle for independent personality.
