The most brilliant American-Chinese author Amy Tan is famous for her novel The JoyLuck Club which was published in1990s. She is regarded as the pioneer who takesChinese American Literature into the mainstream of American literature. From her uniquebackground, social formation, and identity, Amy Tan deeply explores culture identity fornew immigrants in her works. She explains a universal literature phenomenon, that is,culture identity, existed in new immigrants families from the perspective of Feminism,which is against for patriarchy, hegemony and unequal social status of woman.In her The Bonesetter’s Daughter, Amy Tan put her emphasis on the process fromcontraction to integration between Gu Liuxin and Lu Ling Young, between Lu Ling Youngand Ruth Young. The thesis clearly highlights not only the living state and psychologicalchanges on the conflicts between Chinese weak culture and American multi-culture butalso difficulties and life experience they meet when faced to select their own identities. InThe Bonesetter’s Daughter, Amy Tan is perfect to show her own understanding andthinking of culture identity.The author reaches the following conclusions:(1) Culture discrimination, sexualdiscrimination and racial discrimination, the individual identity loss, collective identity loss,self-identity loss and social identity loss are the main reasons of the cultural identity loss ofChinese American.(2) The reconstruction of Chinese American woman’s cultural identityrequires the woman’s awaking of self-awareness.(3) Chinese American women canreconstruct their cultural identities to find their true selves and become the masters of theirown lives.
