The report mainly contains four parts: translation material introduction, translation process introduction, case analyses and conclusion. This report is based upon the translation of an excerpt from Twentieth Century World, a book that gives an overall introduction to the world history of the twentieth century, during which period regional development was gradually replaced by global modernization, and industrialization and modern social development ushered in a new era of globalization. This excerpt mainly describes the twentieth-century global interrelatedness and disequilibrium among cultures in an era of accelerating changes, presenting us with several backgrounds against which some movements developed. This part is a comparatively complete text material of moderate difficulty and adopts a formal language style. The translation process includes reading the material, searching for related information and parallel texts, finishing the first draft, dealing with the difficulties, proofreading the first draft and finalizing the draft. After the final draft is finished, the author illustrates different kinds of translation difficulties with examples and tries to find out how to deal with these problems with various strategies. Finally, through the translation practice, the author has realized that her knowledge falls short of the requirements for being a qualified translator. Therefore, more reading and learning are required in the future if translations are to be more natural and fluent.
