On basis of his combination of theory and writing practice, the famous Song dynasty poet Ge Lifang inherited the family tradition of the Ge’s in Jiangyin and the creation of poetics of Jiangxi poetic school to create his own unique poetics. In his later years,Ge Lifang have composed the book "Yun yu yang qiu". This book first four volumes focus on the art of poetry, the last nine volumes focus on cultural thinking, and the middle seven volumes are mainly record of the researching and reviewing in history, literary quotation of the verse, and their whereabouts. This book reflecting Ge’s poetic thoughts has a high historical value.First, born in a offic ial family abundant in scholar trad ition in Jiangyin, Ge Lifang was infiltrated by Confucianism, which influenced his p oetic taste to be one that emphasizes upon a moral judgement of the poet, viz., morality comes before artistics. Influenced by Ye Mengde, Chen Yu yi and his father Ge Shengzhong, Ge Lifang’s artistic and theoretical practice shared their tastes. Second, Ge emphasizes upon a poetic creation based on the combination of social practice and spirit, therefore he attaches great importance upon rambling in scenic landscape and knowledge accumulation. He stresses upon the unpredictability, spontaneity, and transience of poetic inspiration and thinks that poetry arises more easily in a state of mind called “xujing(literally Void and Quiet).” In artistic practice he emphasizes upon the polishment of diction and sentences and the use of antithesis and allusion with an avocations of Midas’ s touch of the predecessors’ poems. Third, Ge Lifang attaches more priority upon the critique of morality than upon works. His standard of naturalness, suggestive simplic ity and imp lic itly thought –provoking, which is the literary and aesthetic taste of Song Dynasty. Ge’s judgment of poetry’s profundity that takes changing emotion in changing occasion and sensibility against the nature as standard, is influential to the latter generations. Fourth, poetry is expressive of personal and po litical content with a moral critique of the society, which is of great significance in the early South Song Dynasty, when formalism was prevalent. In a word, as a comprehensive poetry composition, "Yun yu yang qiu" contains a rich ideological and complex content. Can only show the main theoretical connotation by hackling from the three dimensions perspective of the creation, criticism and function, and constructing the macro framework of Ge cubic Poetics. If want to present a panoramic view to slip over nothing whether big or small,we still need to in-depth and detailed study.
