With the great development of tourism in recent years, it could be found that cave tourism becomes more and more popular with tourists. Furong Cave, located in Wulong of Chongqing, is very huge and has a variety of cave sediments. The world cave experts and tourists both are conquered by it. Because of the darkness in the cave, cave sediments can not been seen without light. Therefore, lighting becomes the soul of the landscape. At present, some light sources, lamps, electric circuit appear aging and damage. There is a lack of lighting methods. Most of the light sources belong to the first generation or the second generation, which release a lot of light and heat. The light and heat can change the environment of the cave, leading to the growth of lampflora. It makes cave sediments lose original beauty. On the other hand, tourists will have higher requirements on cave lighting with the increasing of travel experience. The existing lighting system of Furong cave can’t meet the needs of tourists increasing, so the optimization of illumination becomes a top priority.Firstly, we made a research about the present situation of illumination in Furong cave and summarized the advantages and disadvantages. Secondly, we builded the evaluation index system of "the perception of tourists about the lighting system in Furong cave" by querying related literature at home and abroad and consulting expert. Thirdly, we collected data through the questionnaire survey and software SPSS17.0 was used to made a statistical analysis of the acquired data. On the basis of the results, we used IPA (Importance Performance Analysis) method to analyze related elements of each interval. Finally, Suggestions for the optimization of illumination in Furong cave were put forward, according to the investigation results and IPA analysis matrix.Main conclusions are as follows:(1) The existing lighting system in Furong cave has many advantages. Such as, the lighting control system is the advanced PLC control system, electric wires are hidden with cement to avoid the visual pollution, lamps and lanterns are well hidden, two sets of lighting system are fitted for some important scenic spots, the lighting of some scenic spots can create a specific artistic conception. However, there are also some problems. Such as, light sources are outdated, which damage the cave environment, lighting equipment are outdated and the management of maintenance is not in time, the intensity of illumination is insufficient, the concealment of the lighting is poor, the flood lighting pattern is widely used and the lighting mode is single; there is a lack of integrity for cave lighting, installation spacing of trail lamps is not unified, etc.(2)Through the IPA analysis, visitors’ perception for the lighting system in Furong cave were as follows. Three indexes of "The lighting won’t make you feel dazzling", "the lighting can show the space of Furong cave" and "the Lighting can create a third dimension of the landscape" located at the region of the status quo maintenance. What we need to do is maintaining the status quo. Five indexes of "the lighting can guide you in the right", "you can find barriers by the lighting for trails ", "there is warning lighting in dangerous area", "you may feel safe under the lighting conditions" and "colorful lights are used in Furong cave" located at the region of strength maintenance. They were important items for visitors. And tourists were satisfied with the five items. So the advantages should be kept. Seven indexes of "light color and natural color lamplights are used in Furong cave", "dynamic lighting is applied in Furong cave", "you can see the true color of the landscape", "the lighting can show the texture of the landscape", "the lighting can create a distinctive theme", "the material and color of lighting facilities are coordinated with the environment" and "cable wires are coordinated with the environment" located at the region of opportunities. Visitors thought these items were not important and were not satisfied with them. We should not put too much effort on them. Three indexes of "the lighting intensity in Furong cave", "the lighting can reveal the imposing manner of the scenery" and "the lighting can create contagious atmosphere" located at the region of improvement. They were the most important items for visitors. But tourists were not satisfied with the three items. So we should concentrate efforts to improve them in the future.(3)Based on the analysis of the results, the following suggestions are put forward:Firstly, we should improve the security of the lighting system, which includes ensuring the safety of the lighting, improving the protection class of lamps and lanterns and improving the lighting power supply level. Secondly, we should create a distinctive theme with lights. Thirdly, we must pay attention to the ecosystem of the lighting system, which includes using LED light source and making full use of the lighting control system. Fourthly, we can strengthen the quality of cave lighting,which includes determining the illumination level of the different types of landscape, making the light color diverse, hiding lighting facilities to avoid the visual pollution, enriching cave illumination pattern and adopting a variety of lighting way.
