Artistic Expression And Exploration Of "Faces"

As one kind of symbol, face is the identification for human, as well as is the bridge for communications with each other and the window of one’s heart. Moreover, the art performance of face is not only the externalization of human’s ideology, but also is the manifestation of the mutual interaction between the subjective consciousness and the objective laws. In spite of the structure or form, the purpose is just for the implication. Based on the model of face-self, this paper attempts to investigate the conversion of manifestation with a number of elements and make the sculpture own new form language by combining the art performance of different faces and referring different art languages.This paper is arranged with four parts. The first section introduces the art origin of face and the original manifestation. In the second section, after the art performance of face is recognized preliminarily from the graph of face with ancient ceramic and Africa mask, the experiences for art are integrated into the personal creations. In the third section, the faces in Picasso’s paintings, Henry Moore’s sculptures, Brancusi’s sculptures and Chinese operas are all analyzed. Then, the faces with eastern characteristics and the diversified performance of faces in modern modellings are all studied, from which, ones can feel the differences between different cultures, regions, religious and races. In the following section four, the thinks for the art manifestation of faces and the personal sculpture creations are presented in detail. Finally, by referring, changing, transforming and remerging the art performance of faces all over the world, this paper remakes the art spirit and image of faces, as well as finds the new abstract artistic creation of sculpture, which has nationality, personality and modern.The diversity of the art about face reflects the changes of cognitive and aesthetic. No matter in primitive society or in today, the arts of face are both meaningful. Moreover, no matter from the forms or from the vision, the art of face has powerful impact. Therefore, the investigations about the art performance of faces is very valuable.
