This translation report, based on the translation of the Letters of a Traveller(the first six letters) written by William Cullen Bryant, is an analysis, introduction, research and summarization of the translation content, translation process and translation results, under the guidance of the skopostheory. These six letters are about author’s experience during his traveling in Europe, which refers to Paris, Florence, Tuscany, Pisa and the experience from Venice to Tyrol. Travel notes has distinctive characteristic, expressing the local conditions and customs of different countries to readers, with the most simplest narrative method. Travel notes belong to tourism text, which also has its specific feature. This translation report analyzes various problems in the process of translation and puts forward the corresponding solutions under the guidance of the principle of skopos theory, in order to make the translation more readable and more acceptable.This report is divided into five parts. The first part describes the translation task, including translation background introduction, a brief introduction of author and the writing background. The second part is the preparation, which includes the choice of translation theory, introduction of translation tools and the schedule of the translation task. The third part is the analysis of translation text, which refers to the analysis of the text characteristic, the lexical characteristic and the sentence characteristic. The fourth part is the analysis of the translation examples about the titles, words and sentences. The last part is the summarization of translation practice and the author puts forward the problems in translation practice, relative thoughts, as well as inspiration and prospects in the future study.
