Research On Family Precepts In The Eastern Han Dynasty

The family precepts of the Eastern Han Dynasty had entered the mature stage and achieved great progress in terms of creation content and form, laying foundation for the future development and prosperity.This dissertation attempts to conduct the intensive reading and study of the literatures on the family precepts of the Eastern Han Dynasty based on the available literature arrangement with the purpose of revealing the development characteristics, main content and literary value of the family precepts in this period. Meanwhile, it also explores the social history background, and influences on future family precepts creation and analyzes the family precepts of the Eastern Han Dynasty from different levels. This thesis consists of four parts.The first part is an overview of the family precepts of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It reviews the family precepts of the pre-Qin period and the Western Han Dynasty and thus summarizes the historical reasons for the birth of the family precepts of the Eastern Han Dynasty and its social background. Besides, it also investigates and sorts out the existing literatures on the family precepts of the Eastern Han Dynasty.The second.part...sorts out the family precepts of the Eastern Han Dynasty, summarizes the main content and on this basis explores the creation characteristics of this period. Family precepts of Eastern Han Dynasty mainly carries out on the offspring of self-admonition of doing things and explain things after one’s death.The most prominent feature of this period lies in the birth of commandment for women which delivers the composer’s expectation that the female younger generation should perform the moral rules, assisting their husband and raising their children and becoming the model of an understanding wife and loving mother.The third part mainly probes into the deep literary value of the family precepts and analyzes the sincere emotions delivered in the family precepts creation and unique personality of the composers. The family precepts shows the senior’s very affectionate towards the junior and manifests the true personality of the composer. The individual difference between the composer and the acceptor give rise to the flexibility of admonishment ways. Han family precepts mainly includes prose works, including Chao, the commandment and books.
