On Si Xianzhu’s TQA Model And Its Applicability Study In Financial Times E-C Translation

Translation assessment has been the core issue of translation criticism, and the key subject of applied translation theory. The study on TQA was hardly treated as a separate category until the 1970s. Many scholars domestic and overseas have devoted themselves into the relevant research from different perspectives, and some of them proposed relatively completed and systematic Models for TQA, which mainly includes Julian House from German and domestic scholar, Si Xianzhu.In terms of domestic research status, Si Xianzhu’s Model for TQA is regarded as a major breakthrough. Having Inherited and carried forward the beneficial results of the "House’s Model", Si Xianzhu put forward an integrative, systemic and operational TQA Model in domestic. The Model is constructed in the light of Systematic Functional Linguistics. "Equivalence" is determined as the philosophy of translation in Si Xianzhu’s TQA Model. According to relationship among three meta-functions of language, "interpersonal meaning" and "ideational meaning" are identified as two parameters of the Model, and five procedures that are used to analyze the ST and TT from both microscopic and macroscopic perspectives are confirmed at last on the basis of Verbal Behavioral Framework theory.In order to promote the development of research, the applicability study of Si Xianzhu’s TQA Model in the sphere of business news translation is conducted in that thesis on the purpose of verifying the rationality and validity of assessing parameters and procedures set in this Model, investigating the feasibility of this TQA Model when it is applied into the study of business news translational quality.The thesis starts with the literature review on TQA Model abroad and at home, research on business news as well. On this basis, Si Xianzhu’s TQA Model including its theoretical bases, the selection of parameters and operational procedures are introduced. In allusion to the fact that few translation criticism studies concerning business news are conducted, the Model is applied into five pieces of business news that are randomly selected under each sub-categories of business news respectively, published from Oct, 2013 to Aug 2014 in FT. com and FT Chinese.The applicability research shows that Si Xianzhu’s Model for TQA is basically suitable for the assessment of business news translational quality, however, there are some irrationalities cannot be ignored when the Model is applied into business news translation. Some pieces of amending advice are proposed with the view of making the Model more applicable to the TQA of business news.
