The Revolutionary Literature produced in the later 1920s,which was an important literary style chosen by the progressive writers especially the proletarians. In the 19th century 20 or 30s,the fashion open modern women breed in the atmosphere of city culture.As the synonym for desire and extravagance,there was a close contact between the modern women and Shanghai.At the same time,they were the spokesmen of urban culture,and were criticized by Kuomintang and other authorities.However,because of their commercial value,they were also well received by the commercial mediums.such as movie,periodical and advertisement.Meanwhile,Chinese New Sensation School and Chapter Book writers tended to depict those characters as well,which not only met with the interest of urban residents,but also reached to annotate humanity.As it were,there were two reasons why the Revolutionary literature writers didn’t give up describing this hot character.Firstly,the proletarian writers must think over the readers’ reception and avoiding artistic check-up by Kuomintang.Secondly,it could show the arduous and complex of Revolution situation in such modern, corrupted and degraded city.Thus,so many modern girls appeared in the Revolutionary Literature,for example,Sun Wuyang,Xu Manli,Mei Xingsu, Wang Manying,Mary,Mei lin and so on.The connotation of Revolutionary literature was widen for the existence of modern girls in works.By means of depicting those sexy characters,the writers expressed their deep understanding of gender,body and love in the revolution. We can find the following facts through those works:Women can’t walk further though they are very free in the masculine revolutionary movement;They usually be-revoluted,lost their sex characteristics and became carriers of male’s desire.So,under the big political contexts of revolution,modern girls also were influenced to different degrees,even their sex characteristics were manifested to the utmost extent.To be honest,authors imagined the revolution and built revolutionary discourse by virtue of showing modern girls’ body.Love element in the novels were included to cater to Citizen’s interest,as a result,not only revolutionary narrative was carried forward,but also the meaning of the revolutionary novels’ connotation became richer.Actually,later generations could figure out the writers’ political attitude and aesthetic pursuit.But we have to admit the fact that there are many deficiencies when the writers model the modern girls or write revolution.
