O.Henry is a famous short story writer in American literary world, and he also has a reputation of the short story master in the world.During his lifetime, he wrote more than three hundred short stories and he use its unique style show the attention to the social environment and human health, he gives us a deep analysis about the end of the 19 th century and the early twentieth century American society condition.O.Henry is not only a master of short stories, he is also the city master of New York, he focuses on construction of city, such as Street, hotel, restaurant,and square. On the other hand, He also pays attention to the city people, such as the riches and the poors, the beggarsand and so on. Especially the attention for the city of the underlying is the biggest characteristic of his city works. In his works, city is no longer an objective description object, it contains the his life experience. The relationship between the people and the city, people’ lost in the city, urban exclusion of pain feeling, these are reflected in the novel. The city’s scenes and the life of people present a picture of New York City.Besides the preface and epilogue, this paper will be divided into three chapters. The introduction part mainly elaborates related research of this topic and the main research ideas and methods will be used. The chapter 1 is O.Henry and its urban literature creation, mainly including the writer’s experience and all of the city literary creation. Chapter 2 is "the city" and "the people" in O.Henry’s novel, mainly divided into three large pieces. One is the image analysis about the main city in the novels. Secondly, discussing people’s living conditions in the city. Finally, on the basis of the above two parts, analysing the relationship between the city and people. Chapter 3 is the characteristics of O.Henry ’city writing, this chapter mainly includes three parts. The benefits of unique short stories urban literature writing; Secondly, analysing the unique artistic tactics of his literary writing; Finally, discussing the different colors of the urban in his short stories. The conclusion of the paper is the part including the features of O. Henry’ city literature and summarizes the value of his city writing.
