| This is a translation project report of the Comparison between Chinese and Western Cultures:a Lecture Series. The excerpts of this report are from the lecture of "Substitution of Ethics for Religion", the lecture of "Ethicalness and Religiousness as Reflected in Literature" and the lecture of "Cultural Consequences and Evolution of Chinese and Western Ethics and Religion" under chapter one "Ethicalness versus Religiousness".The original text of the project is an academic text. It cites from the classics or ancient works a lot and also contains many historical terms and allusions of Chinese traditional culture. During the process of translation, it is a big challenge to transfer the author’s true intention and views correctly. In order to reproduce the original text more accurately, I choose the theory of functional equivalence as the instructive theory. Based on the correct conveying of original text, I hope to realize the equivalence between original text and translation to the most extent. This translation project report are divided into four chapters:Chapter One is introduction to the background of the translation project, including project origin, project significance and report structure. Chapter Two is introduction to the background, the author, the main contents and analysis of the source text. Chapter Three is about quality control, including the difficulties of the translation, the introduction and utilization of the instructive theory. Chapter Four is a conclusion of the enlightenments and lessons from the translation and problems to be solved in the future. |
