A Report On The Translation Of Wolf Totem

This report is based on the author’s translation practice of Wolf Totem, which is written by Jiang Rong, a contemporary Chinese writer. In this paper, Eugene A. Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory is introduced to discuss how the translator uses the closest and the most natural language to realize contextual consistency and dynamic equivalence, so as to arouse similar response of the target readers.The report is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is task description, which discusses Jiang Rong and his Wolf Totem, the reasons for choosing Wolf Totem as the translation practice and significance of this translation; Chapter Two offers a brief idea of the process description, which mainly elaborates the difficulties and solutions in the translation process; Chapter Three is theoretical framework, which presents Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and enlightenment of this theory; Chapter Four is case analysis, and in this part, the translator discusses the typical cases at lexical, syntactic, textual and stylistic level to expound the translation methods under the guidance of this theory; Chapter Five is conclusion, in which the author summarizes the thoughts and experiences in this translation, and analyzes the merits and demerits of this translation to offer similar references to other’s translation practice.
