In the context of contemporary neo-mysticism, the retelling of myths get relationship with cultural production which make the point of cultural content and creativity: as a product of cultural soft power game in the world today, the myth enrich the cultural implications and content creation of the game and with its global entertainment consumption complete the cultural communication; and the game as a form of the mass cultural consumption industry that gathers movie and television, animation, music and other forms of digital industry activates the dormant myth again and gives it new meanings. The myth is completed the retelling in the digital consumption consumer of the modern time eventually. This thesis should focuses on the phenomenon of Chinese neo-mysticism and analyzes Legend of Sword and Fairy, Lengend of the Ancient Sword, The Sword of Emperor which are three typical representatives of Chinese Xian Xia role-playing games, then summarizes the particular characteristics of digital games with neo-mysticism in China and analyzes the way of Xian Xia RPG how to retell the Chinese mythology in narration and cultural dimension, in order to provide a reference for other medias and promote the globalization communication of the Chinese culture in in the context of neo-mysticism, especially provide advices and ideas for the cross-cultural communication between China and the Western.This paper concludes five chapters to analyze the Chinse Xian Xia RPG how to retell the Chinese myths in the context of neo-mythicism:The first chapter mainly analyzes the difference between the myth in the traditional and the neo-myth. First of all, it gives a definition of the myth in the traditional.This part will solve two problems: the one is to give a definition of Chinese myth and the other is to summarize the characteristics of the Chinese myth. The former is to delimit the scope of Chinese mythology; the latter is intended to look for the pointcut for the neo-myth how to retell the Chinese myths.Secondly, it gives a definition of the neo-myth and summarize the characteristics of the contemporary the neo-myth through the comparison of the neo-myth and the old myth, then analyzes the neo-myth how to retell the Chinese myth in the contemporary China.The second chapter discusses the retelling of Chinese myths in Xian Xia role-playing games. Dividing into three parts: in the first, it gives a definition of Chinese Xian Xia RPG and Xian Xia in the narrative characteristics and cultural psychology; Secondly, it explores the common reasons why RPG is so heavily favored in players from the angle of view with psychology and narrative; thirdly, it will analyze and summarize the individual characteristics of Xian Xia RPG.The third chapter focuses on analyzing Xian Xia RPG how to retell the Chinese mythology. Dividing into two parts: the first part, it will research the digital technology of Xian Xia RPG how to retell the figures and scenes Chinese myth in digital vision; the second part, it analyzes and summarizes the ways of Xian Xia RPG how to retell the Chinese myths and provides the typical examples for the artistic creation in the neo-mysticism.The fourth chapter summarizes the significances of retelling Chinese mythology by Xian Xia RPG. It exerts mainly two positive significances: the one is the omnibearing activation of Chinese mythology by hypertext technology of digital game; the other is integration of Chinese culture in Xian Xia RPG which is treated as a cultural product and promoting the globalization communication of the Chinese culture. But the negative significance is the characteristics of entertainment and consumption for Xian Xia RPG which cover the Chinese culture in the game. Then to put forward the examples of Xian Xia RPG how to deal with the negative impact.The fifth chapter mainly analyzes the experiences and reflections of Xian Xia games in the cross-cultural communication. The China Xian Xia games is marginalized by the Western mainstream culture values because of the heterogeneous cultural gap between the two kinds of different culture.
