Margaret Atwood is one of the most important writers in today’s literature world. The care for woman, the social vulnerable groups, ecology, the future of mankind in her works is full of deep humanistic concern. Atwood’s novels has caused for much concern by China’s educational circles since they were translated into Chinese. But most researchers has studied in Atwood’s individual novels from the point of feminism, post-colonialism, anti-utopia and had less comprehensive analyses. It is unavoidable to confined the study field to some small part of the writer’s whole thinking. This thesis study on Margaret Atwood’s novels from the ecocriticism perspectives. In the guidance of the theory of ecocriticism, starting from the special concept of nature in Atwood’s novels, and enter into the ecological ideals of harmonious coexistence of man and nature in the works gradually.I intent to analyze the thoughts on the future of mankind lengthwise in Atwood’s novels, and study on the patterns of the writer’s eschatology fable and criticism on human’s culture.This thesis is divided into six parts. In the first parts. The introduction introduce the history and status of the study on Margaret Atwood’s novels from the ecocriticism perspectives, account for the theory significance and the practical significance.In the second parts.I intent to find the symbiotic relations of nature and civilization in her works from the Atwood’s unique natural image. In the third parts. I made a further analysis on the characteristics of the symbiotic relationship: ecological harmony ideas of the fusion between mankind and nature. In the fourth parts. I made a further analysis on the concept of equality between people and people, men and women in Atwood’s novels from the harmonious relationship between human and nature. In the fifth parts. To study on the features of Atwood’s apocalyptic novels and the shown of human cultural criticism in the novels. In the last parts. The epilogue including a brief analysis of the influence on the life of Atwood’s ecological thought, a summary of the ecological ideas of harmonious symbiosis between nature and civilization, man and man in Atwood’s novels. And then, I went to study the warning of the human’s eschatological allegory.
