The paper use experimental methods to study the features of Indonesian students’tones (tones and neutral) when reading Chinese words. Some problems of Indonesia students’speaking are found after comparing it with Chinese teachers, then some suggestions are applied for Chinese teaching.There are six parts consisted in it.The introduction is supposed to introduce the results of studying Chinese learners’ acquisition of tones by experimental investigation in recent years. The respondents of this survey are Indonesian ethnic Chinese learners. We use the Praat software to record the Chinese syllables and tones of Indonesian students and also Chinese teachers, use the Goldwave software to cut audio files into fragments that easy for analyzing, and then use the Praat software to analyze pitch and tone patterns of each syllable. Experimental text includes one-syllable words, two-syllable words and neutral tone words, while about two-syllable words, we will comparatively analyze tone of words when it be the first syllable and then the second.The subject of this paper is the second, third and forth part, which are scientific experimental analysis and summary of the findings. We adopt the method of comparing findings of the test to comparatively analyze the tone characteristics of Indonesian students and Chinese teachers, then find out the features and disadvantages of Indonesian students’ acquisition of Chinese tones.The fifth part is aimed to analyze the causes of errors during the process of the Indonesian students’ acquisition about Chinese tones. The effect of negative transferring of the mother tongue, teaching, language mutation as well as the impact of environmental factors are taken into account. Then some teaching suggestions are put forward in a targeted manner, hoping to help Indonesian students when learning Chinese tones.
