Doris Lessing is one of the most prestigious and outstanding writers in the literary world in recent two decades. Her works show her concern for age and society, reflecting the living problems that still plague us today, such as environmental crisis, gender conflict, racial discrimination, female psychology and oppression of patriarchy culture. Her novels focus on the inner contradiction of modern civilization, challenging the mainstream discourse of western culture, and thus become a benchmark for literature in this era. Ecofeminism criticizes the dominant logic and dualism, doubts of the rationalism, calls for harmony between man and nature, and appeals to reshape the human spirit. This paper uses the ecological feminist theory to interpret Lessing’s short novels, hoping to have an overall grasp of Lessing’s thoughts and stories.First of all, discuss the ideas, methods and significance of the research, and elaborate the research status of Doris Lessing and her works at home and abroad and summarize ecofeminism. Secondly, using the method of close reading of the text, analyze Doris Lessing’s objection to anthropocentrism and her desire for a beautiful ecological landscape. Once more expound Lessing’s rebellion against patriarchal theory and her pursuit of gender equality and the interpersonal harmony. Then analyze Lessing’s exploration of healthy human mental state and explain the reason why she combined feminism with naturalized ethic in her writing. The thesis involves her 30-plus short stories, in which cement her ecological and female consciousness, showing her deep thinking on the relationships between human and nature, society and self-awareness. Finally, make a brief summary of the whole paper and put forward the contemporary value of Lessing’s short stories.
