Death Imagery In Obscure Poetry

Death is the inevitable fate of life. As the eternal theme of literature and art, it is constantly being written and spoken. The poets are those who feel the most intensive experience of individual life. Obscure poets’works are filled with the theme of death in varying degrees, a large number of imagery which have the implication of death are coming into being, poets’saying about death become more directly. Obscure poetry,which being called "the rise of new aesthetic principles", open up the readers’aesthetic vision in terms of language and imagery. The construction of death imagery can reflect the way how the poets in different times to see the world, also can explore the evolutionary path of the poets’ concept about death.This essay based on obscure poetry, will investigate the different types and meanings of death imagery in poetry text, analyze in-depth about typical poets’works. This paper divided into four parts.The first part finds the political phenomena what the poets want to expose from the death imageries in obscure poetry.’Cultural Revolution’badly destroys the political order of the society, and the times that people all lose individual humanities make people have everlasting scars. The readers can comprehend the political phenomena what the poets want to expose from three aspects:first, carefully looking back the history, there are many deaths because of "counterrevolution" in "Cultural Revolution", and the poets choose it to analyze; second, for the thinking of real life exists in obscure poetry, people can find how the poets explore the humanity in the real affairs from the death imagery; third, it can be seen the poets’ calling of ideal, and it is of idealism color.The second part pays attention to the cultural representation in the death imagery. Cultural Revolution destroys the culture, and the obscure poets, such as JiangHe, YangLian, makes their view to the traditional culture. Finding the profound cultural connotation in the death imagery from three aspects:the reappearance of mythological prototype in poetry, the expression of traditional culture in poetry and the rethinking of traditional history culture.The third part sorts out the death imagery related to life symbol in obscure poetry. The death imagery has lost its function of criticizing and rethinking, in turn, it is full of humanitarianism. First, the death imagery in obscure poetry shows the obscure poets’ thinking about the value of individual life; second, poets use it to express their aspiration of devoted love from the feminist perspective; last, the death imagery focused shows the obscure poets’exploration of the ultimate value of individual.The forth part will investigate the types of death imagery in obscure poetry and the art features about their language.
