| This dissertation researches on the learning resources for listening, reading, writing andtranslation as well as speaking scripts by contrastive analysis of the differences between thecohesive devices and the structures of Chinese and English texts. With the cooperation ofAcademic Affair Office and Student Affair Office, the ideals of Gongqing College ofNanchang University is to organize the teaching and learning activities and motivate thestudents’ potentials and cultivate students’ ability to learn the target language autonomouslyand innovatively. It starts from the class, organized and evaluated by the department, and thensupervised by the above offices, which projected to improve students self-learning abilities.The author targets at English text writing, and participates in the teaching and learninginnovation, and collects text database, guides the students as well as analyzes theeffectiveness of the experiment. The aims of this dissertation are as follows: First, to verifythe effectiveness of some learning resources in terms of developing students’ text awarenessby case study; second, to analyze the feasibility and practicality of the5-Dimension TextWriting Model with the experimental data. The research finding reported by the author willalso hopefully contribute some beneficial and constructive references for English instructionsin Chinese educational context.Chinese and English are two dramatically different languages. Many Chinese studentshave learnt English for more than ten years, while English is the hardest thing for them. Forone thing, it is because their thinking models are affected due to the negative transfer of theirnative language; for another, the learners have neither an abundant English accumulation northe knowledge of text coherence and text organization. This dissertation contrastively analyzethe original texts and target texts for listening dictation, reading and translation as well aswriting practice in Gongqing College. It will explain the ideas from the following four partswith a reference of the summary, a case study and detailed exemplification.The first part is mainly to review the research achievements on cohesive means andstructures of Chinese and English texts. The second part analyzes the status quo of the subjected college from the perspective ofthe text awareness of students, their aptitude and facilities as well as courses arrangement andbooks.The third part will briefly introduce the system of5-Dimension English Text WritingModel, its fundamental conditions and work procedures.The fourth part is to prove the practicality of the database by contrastively analyzing fiveoriginal and five target texts for English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating.The fifth parts is to illustrate the effectiveness of the5-Dimension English Text WritingModel based on the experimental data, text awareness of teachers and students as well as thewriting curriculum-setting.Finally comes the conclusion. In the dissertation, the author has mentioned ESP (Englishfor Specific Purpose) which must be based on broad-caliber students who have deep culturalawareness by long-term English study. The author claims that no teaching model can becompletely appropriate to all the students, and it is impossible to be suitable for all thesituations. Thus, to ensure the effectiveness of language instruction, the author puts forwardthat the coverage of experiment subjects can be only within50%. And the subjects shouldhave a good command of English, and they are active in and serious about English learning.The English Text teaching is not one-off act, it is integrated with other four skills. As teachers,they should strengthen their linguistic theories, and with these theories, the teachers canselect texts with time significance and representative while completing database. To directand supervise the students’ learning is also important. As for students, they should put moreemphasis on text awareness. |
