An Exploratory Design Of The Rating Scale Of Chinese Parenting Sytle (parent Version)

Objective: To compile a rating scale of parenting style which accords with China’s actualconditions, with satisfied maneuverability, effectiveness and representative, to provide areliable assessment tool for Chinese parenting style. Reliability and validity were verified.Methods: This study, started with the content of parenting style, combined with the resultsof the literatures and expert’s opinions, had initially formed a initial questionnaire and atheoretical structure, and pre-experiment was implemented. The item analysis (including thecorrelation of items and total score, critical value, a value after the item was removed, thecorrelation of correction items and the total score, factor loadings and commonalities) andexploratory factor analysis of initial questionnaire were implemented. Finally the formalquestionnaire of the rating scale of Chinese parenting sytle (parent version) was completed.Surveying once again by formal questionnaire. Reliability and validity were examined byCronbach coefficient, split-half reliability, correlation coefficient and confirmatory factoranalysis.Results:(1)Deleting28entries which quality was deficiency through item analysis,Exploratory factor analysis extracting five commonfactors, of which variance contributionrate reached50.51%altogether. Five commonfactors were named: democracy care, rudeand autocratic, tolerant and understanding, connection of emotion, displine and guide.(2)Reliability test of the scale showed that Cronbach coefficient was0.917, split-halfreliability coefficient was0.731.(3)Validity test of the scale showed that the correlationcoefficient of each dimension level was in range of0.301to0.629, and the correlationcoefficient of each dimension and scale was in range of0.695to0.857.(4)Confirmatoryfactor analysis showed that the structural model of rating scale of Chinese parenting style(parent version) reached the main indexes of Goodness of Fit basically, wherein theRMSEA is0.059, χ2to freedom ratio was2.430, GFI, CFI and TLI were0.765,0.736and 0.723.(5)Preliminarily compiling a rating scale of Chinese parenting style (parent version)constituted of52entries and5dimensions.Conclusion: The content discrimination of the scale is in line with the requirements ofpsychometrics; Reliability indicators have reached the surveying requirements; Constructvalidity is consistent with the design idea; The scale reflects status and characteristics ofChinese parenting style. The formal scale provides assessment of Chinese parenting style ofeffective scale.
