As a genre of contract texts, Sino-foreign cooperative educational agreements mainly involve the issues such as credit transfer, academic exchange and cooperative educational program. With a rapid development of international cooperative education, administrative departments on education begin to show more and more concerns on the translation of this type of contracts in recent years.Based on the analysis of the English-Chinese translation of the "General Agreement between Dublin Institute of Technology and Hainan University", this thesis discusses the main translation problems in this field. Comparisons are made between English and Chinese contracts at the lexical, syntactic and stylistic levels respectively. This thesis also explores the application of three main translation criteria of the educational contract, i.e. faithfulness, smoothness and elegance. Several translation strategies are suggested in tackling problems for obtaining accuracy, fluency and formality.
