A Practice Report On The Interpreting Task Of The9^th Session Of The FAF

In this report, the author selects two speeches and the press conference from the9thsession of the FAF for Chinese to English simultaneous interpretation. She usesthese two speeches as examples to illustrate the whole process of an interpreting task.The author uses the speeches as examples to analyze the problems and difficultieswhich arise during the interpreting process. These problems include interpreting thenumbers, choosing the proper vocabulary to interpret Chinese-characteristic words andcontrolling voice speed during simultaneous interpretation. At the same time, theauthor defines the right tactics to practice interpreting. These include the right strategyto conduct shadow practice and sight interpreting, keeping pace with the speaker’svoice speed and making predictions beforehand. Only in this way can the interpretermakes the best preparations at the linguistic and mental levels.Interpreting is a task which requires high physical and mental abilities. I am fullyaware of the importance of preparation before interpreting. While browsing the powerpoint and speech scripts, I could get the whole picture of the speech so as to improvethe accuracy of my interpreting. Also, in terms of understanding difficult words,background information needs to be gathered.
