On Textual Cohesion And Note-taking Skills In C-E Consecutive Interpretation

With the deepening of globalizaiton and cross-cultural communication, inter-government meetings are held more frequently to discuss matters concerning all the humankind. Interpreting as an important device in those meetings gets more and more attentionfrom people of varied countries. However, the market has an ever larger demand for theinterpreters. To meet the huge demand, Masters of Translation and Interpretation (MTI)was launched in a large number of Chinese colleges and universities. Yet we have to faceproblems and challenges existing in research and teaching of interpetation.Thus, on one hand, this thesis approaches consecutive interpretating from theperspective of descourse cohesion theory based on the case of remarks given by PremierWen during the Press Conference in2012combined personal experience of interpretingfrom Chinese to English and empirical note-taking to analyze the funtion of cohesiondevices in Chinese to English consecutive interpretation for the interpretors to explore theeffect of such devices in interpreting study and teaching in the future.On the other hand, based on Wen’s remarks, this thesis represents note-taking theoriesand devices, including related theories, rules and opinions and experiments from scholarsfrom both home and abroad, indicating note-taking is a valid instrument helpinginterpreters remember and comprehend the source language as well as enhance the fluency,accuracy of the target language.Above all, this thesis dedicates itself to doing some research on discourse cohesionand note-taking in Chinese to Enlish interpretation, hoping to provide some insight forfurther studies related to the two topics in the coming days.
