Research Of The Occidental Character Images In Chinese Movies

It is import to know how to create characters for a film-maker. In recent years, with increasingly frequent international exchanges, occident character images in Chinese movies are appearing increasingly.what are the main features of the occidental characters in Chinese movies? Which kind of values did the characters show?In order to study these issues, this study takes the award-winning films in the popular movie of Hundred-flowers Award, the Golden Rooster Award and Huabiao Award since1990as the object of study. And this study is carried out on seven latitudes:gender, geography, occupation, social relationships, personality and values.This paper shows lots of features of occident character images in Chinese movies. First of all, the amount of the male is more than the female. Secondly, the amount of people from American and Britain is more than the other occidental counties. Thirdly, their occupations are limited. Besides, some other features can be found in this paper. These features reflect the real world.It is no doubt that the film-makers created some pilots by their imagination when it was necessary.By means of analysis, we can find conclusions as follows:occidental character images in Chinese movies are diverse and changing. There are both strong aggressive negative occidental characters and friendly open utopian occidental characters in Chinese movies. It shows that it is complex how some Chinese people think of the Occident. Besides this study reflects Chinese people’s attitudes to the Occident which is hoping remembering the shame of the motherland and to face the moment.
