It’s influence worldwide is so significant that it has been taken as a symbol of Britain due to its artistic achievements and representation for national culture. Chinese traditional drama is also awesome artistically and culturally, but it is stuck with some difficulties now. Through exploring the success experiences of the communication of Shakespeare’s drama, we might be able to find some clues for the future development of Chinese traditional drama.The communication of Shakespeare’s drama is supported in Britain both by government and by ordinary people. However, there aren’t many studies about it. The first chapter of this thesis summarizes the history of communication of Shakespeare’s drama both at home and abroad. Then the author attempts to analyze the culture-related policies conducted by the government and their significance to the communication of Shakespeare’s drama. Next the author focuses on two organizations endeavored to popularize Shakespeare’s works-the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and the Royal Shakespeare Company-trying to analyze their valuable contributions to the communication of Shakespeare’s drama.On government level, the author draws a rough picture of cultural policies and governmental supports towards the spread of Shakespeare’s drama in Britain by looking up certain documents, data and cases. It shows that in addition to the historical reason that the former Empire brought Shakespeare’s art everywhere, the efficient three-level culture management system conducted by the government nowadays can assure the effective allocation of governmental fund. It also shows that the mature theatre education system in Britain can help the popularization of Shakespeare among young generations. Moreover, the public diplomacy maintains the attention worldwide to Shakespeare’s drama. All these factors serve as a solid basis for the communication of Shakespeare’s drama.On organization level, the author pays special attention to the two Shakespeare-related organizations mentioned above, analyzing their daily operations from economical, educational and academic, and propaganda perspectives. The results show that tourism in certain area is of great significance for the spread and protection of Shakespeare heritage. The organizations’efforts in drama education also enable them to achieve their explicit goals. Moreover, the colorful activities initiated by these organizations contribute to the vitality of Shakespeare’s drama. It can be said that these organizations are the heroes for the spread of Shakespeare culture.The last section is about the reflection on the former experiences of drama communication in China.
