There are many difficulties in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,because of the peculiarities and tonic changes in Chinese. However, the authorfinds that the foreign students usually have outstanding performance in singingChinese songs in many programs, such as Chinese Bridge Contest, ChineseContest for the Foreign Students Studying in China and Avenue of Stars. Itreminds the author to introduce the folk songs with Chinese characteristics intoteaching Chinese as a foreign language, thus fully arouses the foreign students’subjective initiative by using the lively activities and rich teaching models. Inaddition, by doing so, the foreign students will become enthusiastic and paymore attention and effort to study Chinese.This article focuses on teaching Chinese as a foreign language by usingChinese folk songs. On the basis of the former research results, the authorstresses the positive influences of Chinese folk songs, which is an importantpart of Chinese traditional culture and contributes to Chinese teaching,teachers, professors, foreign students, truly understand the amazing of Chinesefolks. By introducing the folk song of Geranium Maiden into teaching What aBeautiful Jasmine, which had a remarkable effect, the author summarizes thethree selective principles: choosing the folk songs which have the normativesentences, sense of rhythm and are close to life. Meanwhile, the author putforward the emphasis on teaching Chinese national culture and cultivating the students’ studying interest, avoiding regarding Chinese folk song as a maintask, paying attention to phonetic and intonation changes, thus make folk songan effective assistant teaching method in teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage.On the basis of the former research results, the author carries on studyfrom the following five chapters:Chapter One is the introduction which focuses on the background,meaning, range and method of study and innovation and deficiency of thesubject; the research review, the theoretical foundation of this article, is mainlyabout the research review of music and the overall research of folk songs.Chapter Two is about the importance of Chinese folk songs in teachingChinese as a foreign language, concentrating on the great significance to theChinese teaching, teachers, foreign students and Chinese folk songs.Chapter Three is the selective principles of Chinese folk songs in teachingChinese as a foreign language, that is, to choose the folk songs which have thenormative sentences, sense of rhythm and are close to life.Chapter Four is the design demonstration of Chinese teaching by usingChinese folk songs. The author uses the appropriate teaching materials, takingWhat a Beautiful Jasmine as an example, and makes elaborately curriculumdesign and arrangement which consists of Teaching Objectives, Key TeachingPoints, Teaching Methods and Teaching Assessment.Chapter Five is the feedback of training and teaching. According to the teaching design implementation and the students’ feedback, the author putsforward the major notes from the perspective of teaching significance,teaching objectives, teaching contents and teaching methods.The last part is Conclusion. The author believes Chinese folk songs, anassistant method in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, is of greatsignificance to arouse students’ studying initiative, to strength and masterlanguage point, to improve the articulation accuracy, to expand and enrichvocabulary and deepen understanding of Chinese culture. However, teachersshould attach importance to the integration of folk songs and curriculumcontent, the selective principles as well as the assistant role of folk songs. Atthe same time, the author also analyses the deficiencies in theory and objectiveconditions in this article. The author expresses the determination to carry onresearch in teaching Chinese as a foreign language for a long time to come.
