Seeking A New Approach Of Studying Chinese Traditional Colors From The Perspective Of The Character(Lin Daiyu) In Dream Of Red Mansions

Dream of Red Mansions is not only a classic literature work, but an encyclopediaof Chinese traditional cultures. Cao Xueqin blends traditional colors into portrayingcharacters. These colors are not just some superficial ornaments, but behind themconceals the attribute property of traditional colors, which can help us understandmore comprehensively and accurately the characters and their fates in the novel.Meanwhile, it also helps us know and study well Chinese traditional cultures.Based on the results of former scholars’ study on Dream of Red Mansions, fromthe perspective of chromatics, the thesis unscrambles Lin Daiyu’s character color, fatecolor and the color of dwelling environment. The thesis also analyzes the applicationrules of traditional colors in artistic creation through Cao Xueqin’s application oftraditional colors in portraying characters.Chinese traditional color is one of visual presentations of traditional cultures.The study on the description of colors in classic literature works not only widens thecurrent research field of traditional colors, but promotes its popularization in moderndesign.
