| As one of the main ways to report the trend of international economic development, financial news is specialized and characterized of its specialty and technical terms. This report focuses on the application of amplification and omission, two different translation methods, in translating financial news according different language structure characteristics, making the translation understandable and acceptable to the target language readers through amplification and omission on the structure and style of target language. English financial news aims to be more concise, and it often omits some constituents of the sentence to shorten the press time so as to meet the timeliness requirements of a quick update. Constituents such as the relative pronoun of nominal clauses, adjectives or adverb of degree are often omitted. Therefore, it shows a tendency to be colloquial. Literal translation for such a sentence will lead to ambiguousness, and confuse the target readers. So, amplification is often used in the Chinese translation of financial news to add the constituents omitted in the source language so as to make the translation to be in line with the Chinese expression. Thus the translation will be easier to understand and translationese can be reduced. Chinese financial news always contains long sentences and emphasizes on the use of rhetorical devices. Some unnecessary rhetorical devices need to be integrated or omitted. Due to the influence of idiomatic expression of source language, the translations are often not concise enough. Therefore, omission plays a key role in English translation of financial news. By omitting the repetitive expression, some category words and the redundant modifying words, the translation can be more concise rather than redundancy and lengthy. According to the language features of these two kinds of news text, this report discusses the application of amplification and omission in translation of financial news from the language structure and stylistic features. |
