This report was guided by the schema theory, investigated the formation ofinterpreter’s note-taking system and its application in consecutive interpreting by anexperiment, hoping that the experiment could improve the effect and efficiency ofinterpretation.Schema theory is of crucial importance on interpreting process, particularly inpromoting interpretation skills such as short-term memory training, interpreting notestraining and reproducing the original messages. This experiment took consecutiveinterpreting as example and selected ten student-interpreters as experimental subjects. Before the experiment began, test subjects would take a pre-experiment practice as acomparison, then they would be trained for two months to form a better and skillednote-taking system. During the training, subjects’videos and notes would be collectedfor later use. After the training, a final evaluating experiment would be carried out tobe a comparison with the pre-experiment practice, then analyze the experiment databy cross-over method, hoping we can draw a conclusion which could validate theexperiment objectives. After a comprehensive analysis of the experimental data, the reporter could drawthe following conclusions: there are great differences between the interpretationsbefore and after the training. The causes could be revealed after an in-depth analysis:(1) under the guidance of schema theory, test subjects have formed a relatively perfectnotes system.(2) participants can fully make use of their note system, and make itplay an important supporting role in the process of interpreting. More specifically, before the experiment, subjects are almost not good at taking notes, using sourcelanguage rather than target language or symbols, abbreviations while interpreting, theinterpretations are less than ideal. But after the training, test subjects are learned touse more symbols, scribes, abbreviations, and both the original and target language, layout of the notes turned to be vertical, instead of horizontal. All these show thatsubjects have formed a better note-taking system, the accuracy and integrity of thefinal experiment interpretation, the interpreting ability and skills have much improvedthan the interpretation before the training.
