The development of political, economic, ideological and culturalet. have reached a certain height in Ming Dynasty in the process ofChinese history. Meanwhile, the disadvantages are also fully revealed.This period is connected with modern China. Social transformationhad stared difficultly. So Ming Dynasty plays an important role in theevolution of Chinese history. At the same time, it provides usexcellent historical information to study the calligraphy of MingDynasty.Particularly, the ‘civil election system’ has provided rich socialbasis for the development of calligraphy in this history period. Civilelection system is the way to select talents in Chinese feudal society.It consists two parts:"quan", also known as measurement, is theprimary way to measure whether the talents are qualified;"election"is to select based on different talent types. Civil election system’sprototype appeared in Tang Dynasty. And it was not perfected untilYuan and Ming Dynasty. Ever since the Nine-rank system in Northernand Southern Dynasties replaced the civil election system in TangDynasty, family, talk, calligraphy and judgment had become the mainmethod of personnel selection. Most of times, test came first and then quan; that is to observe the person’s calligraphy and judgmentfirst, then look into his family and talk, lastly record. Whenever writes,the person should write beautifully. The importance of writing can beseen. The small quan to select outer officials even put wring in thefirst position. And even only by good writing, one person can obtain aposition from court. The position is not low. The court is able to takein talents by calligraphy. Then it is followed by the evolution ofcalligraphy; especially learn from the previous educations. No matterofficial schools, private schools, imperial academy or temple schools,they all exist phenomenon to learn calligraphy. It results in a specialculture phenomenon that a large number of people who are good atcalligraphy become official and people all over the country arelearning calligraphy. Therefore, calligraphy has attracted widespreadattention and achieved unprecedented development.Civil election system is representative of the social culture of thisperiod. It is also the main driving force of the development ofcalligraphy in this period. No doubt, it also has very broad and deepimpact.In this paper, the author has illustrated her own view for thedevelopment of calligraphy from the aspect of Ming Dynasty’s civilelection system, civil and cultural shift civil election system’sinfluence.First, classified summarize the calligraphy’s profiles andcharacteristics at that period. Then, talk about the influence of threerules on various calligraphy system. It illustrated the reason why MingDynasty calligraphy is regarded as a peak in the history of calligraphy.It is mainly motivation by the influence of civil election system. It has both promotion effect and certain constraints. Thus, provide theauthor’s own view for a better inheritance and development ofexcellent Chinese calligraphy.
