With the development of multimedia technology and the wide use of the internet and computer, college English teaching is becoming more and more multimodal. The rapid development of information technology promotes the change in the ways of communication and the education idea. However, the traditional teaching mode is not adapted to the requirements of the times. This study explores the application of multimodal teaching mode in the field of foreign language teaching. It is also recognizes the importance of multimodal theory in teaching progress in China. The application of multimodal theory in college English teaching, help students to fully understand the meaning potential and limitations of various multimodal symbol in the communication as well as the relationship of a variety of symbols, and learn the function and usage of the various symbol in language communication, in order to rise to the diversity of cultural worid and the exchange of variety of information challenges.With an attempt to explore multimodal teaching mode to improve the students’level of English, this study uses the experimental comparison method in the college English teaching. During the 18 weeks training, the experimental class was taught by the researcher with the multimodal teaching mode and the traditional teaching mode was applied in the control class. Data collected from the research are analyzed by SPSS 16. A meaningful difference was observed between experiment class and the control class. Result shows the positive contribution of the multimodal teaching mode used in the college English teaching. At the same time, it is make the further research by the questionnaire. The thesis concludes with a suggestion that compared with traditional teaching method, multimodal teaching mode should be adopted as one of the teaching method to improve students’level of English in the college English teaching. Although there are some limitations in this study, it also provides a certain reference value for theoretical exploration and practical operation of the multimodai college English teaching has a certain reference value.
