Experimental Study About Perceptual Fluency And Beliefs On JOL

Judgment of learning is an important form of metamemory monitoring judgment,JOLs attempt to evaluate how well information currently being (or soon to be) learned is likely to be recalled at a later time.The focus attentions are factor of JOL, mechanism of JOL and accuracy of JOL.In recent years the impact of perceptual of information on judgment of learning has become a new hotspot in the research of metacognition.Recent studies showed that the effect of perceptual information on judgment of learning is based on the perceptual fluency.The perceptual fluency hypothesis proposes that the fluency and ease of perceiving material at encoding will be incorporated into peoples’ predictions, such that material perceived more fluently will be given higher metacognitive judgments than will material perceived less fluently. This occurs despite the fact that perceptually fluent information typically does not enhance and sometimes impairs actual memory performance.Therefore, based on previous studies, by manipulating the font shape of word on visual perceptual information,want to verify font shape will affect the judgment of learning, memory performance and accuracy, just like the other visual generated material. and get a better understanding of its mechanism.The study includeed four experiment designs in order to improve metamemory monitoring accuracy. Experiment 1 is to examine font shape on perceptual fluency of the individual. Experiment 2 and 3 took the form of two-factor mixed design to investigate the influence of different shape conditions on JOL,memory performance and accuracy of learning on different warning conditions,respectively in the aggregate JOL and item-by-item JOL.Experiment 4 examined whether beliefs will influence JOL or not.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)Font shape can affect JOL via perceptual fluency.(2)Both in the aggregate JOL and item-by-item JOL,the intact (more fluent) condition give higher JOL than the generate condition. But the generate condition produces greater actual memory than the intact condition.The generate condition give better absolute accuracy of JOL than the intactcondition.(3)Effects of perceptual fluency on metamemory is based on experience.
