An Interpretation Of Showalter’s Gynocritics

Elaine Showalter is an American contemporary feminist literary critic.She has done a lot of feminist literary criticism from the 1970 s.She has created the word of "gynocritics" and built her own theory system. This article attempts to sort out the criticism theory of Elaine Showalter. From the feminist criticism was still a wilderness to "vitality", Showalter focus on five kinds of critical theory: androgynist, female aesthetics, gynocritics, gynesis, gender theory. Showalter build her own theory on feminist criticism in the context of other theories. In the longitudinal view, Showalter’s "gynocritics" is a process of development. In her study of female article, she has found their works treated by the traditional criticism standard and the value of their works had not received real recognition. So she wants to reconstruct the criticism standard,then explore the female writers’ value. On the basis of her present research,she built her theory. Her theory is focus on women and their works.She clarifies the word "gynocritics" and "feminist aesthetics". She applied her own theory to explore a large number of the buried woman writer and analyzed the creation theory of theirs.
