Research Of Metro Guiding Signs Design Based On Guangfo Regional Culture

With the rapid development of economy and the level of urbanization, the modern metro station becomes the important node which joins internal and external traffic of the main cities by collecting the rail, bus, taxi and other transportation as an integrated whole. Gradually the modern metro becomes the representative of the city’s image and the display window of city civilization’s degree. As an important means of the metro operation management modernization, the metro guiding signs system is an important basis for the passengers to determine the direction and routes by providing service information, warning messages and orientation guidance information. At the same time the metro guiding signs play an important role in improving the environment conditions, the passenger’s psychological state and the operational efficiency of the metro.This paper takes the metro guiding signs of the Guangfo Line as the research object, and puts forward the design methods and application specification about the integration of Guangfo regional culture and the metro guiding signs design, based on the theory of semiotics design. The thesis combs through the research status at home and abroad of the metro guiding signs design in the public transportation as well as the problems existing in the current metro guiding signs design. Developing from the metro guiding signs design elements, principles and theories of semiotics, this paper proposed the extraction and application of specific methods of regional cultural symbols. Combined with Guangzhou and Foshan’s urban regional culture characteristics, this paper studied the ideas, methods and application specifications of Guangfo Line metro guiding signs system’s culture design, and proposed the metro guiding signs system which has Guangfo geographical and cultural characteristics. After a complete theoretical research and design practice, this paper presented the result of study, the study innovation and the application prospects finally.This thesis broadens the area of the research on the metro guiding signs system’s cultural design by introducing design of regional culture into the public transportation navigation system and proving it theoretically and practically possible to integrate locally distinctive regional culture into the metro guiding signs system. Besides performing its functions, the metro guiding signs enrich the cultural connotations, because they are not only the signs delivering messages of the transportation, the local cultures and passengers’ aesthetic needs, but also an important window opening up to the outside world.
