Effect Of Cognitive Flexibility In Lying Behavior

Cognitive flexibility is a kind of ability about an individual in a changing environment to adjust thinking and overcome the edge thinking, it is ability to adapt to the new situation. Cognitive flexibility in essence according to the changes of the situation to change the information in the working memory ability, the process includes both the inhibitory control and the working memory, namely, cognitive flexibility is a mixture of inhibitory control and working memory. Through verbal or nonverbal way, purposeful conceal, forge the relevant facts or emotional information,in order to induce others to form or maintain a communicator which is false belief,successful or not, all defined as a lie. In the field of cognitive neural mechanisms,some researches mentioned that lying and cognitive flexibility have activation of both downtown overlap, therefore, my study let college students as the subjects, explored the impact on the cognitive flexibility of lying.This research is divided into two experiments, study one selected 68 undergraduate subjects, using GKT polygraph paradigm, with reaction time as index,examines the impact of cognitive flexibility to conceal and fabricated lies. In true experiment condition, according to the results of respond, there was no significant difference between high cognitive flexibility subjects and low cognitive flexibility; In concealing lie experiment condition, the reaction time of high cognitive flexibility subjects are shorter than low cognitive flexibility ones; Whether cognitive flexibility is high or low, the reaction time of hide lie were significantly greater than true reaction; Fabricated lie reaction time significantly greater than the true reaction; In fabricated lie experiment condition, the reaction time of higher cognitive flexibility was significantly lower than low cognitive flexibility subjects’.In order to further increase the ecological validity of the experiment, the experiment two selected 228 participants to judgment the recordings that prepared before, make the recognition error rate as an index, examines the impact on cognitive flexibility and fabricating lies in real life. Results show that the higher cognitive flexibility subjects, true group recognition error rate was significantly lower than liegroup; In true condition, high cognitive flexibility participants’ recognition error rate is significantly higher than low cognitive flexibility subjects; In lying condition, high cognitive flexibility participants’ recognition error rate is significantly higher than low cognitive flexibility.The research results show that different cognitive flexibility in the hide and fabricated lies showed the different performance. All the factors such as the problem solving ability, restructuring, and construct the knowledge ability, the ability to inhibit the external behavior and mood are included in cognitive flexibility, all kinds of the factors mentioned above are impact lying. High cognitive flexibility people were good at lying than low cognitive flexibility.
