There are a lot of different characters in the Chinese translated Buddhist texts, they can provide lots of fresh materials for language researchers. Collating these different characters also has the important value. This paper mainly selects Tang Xuanzang’s translation on Vimalakirti-Nirdesa-Sutra and its different text versions with the same message but different translation as the research object, then collates them by carefully comparing and textual researching them. In the specific process of collation, we use Taisho Tripitaka as the master copy, and cite Chinese Tripitaka(referred to as China Tibet) as well as Room by Rocks as collated material, simultaneously refer some Chinese local literatures at various historical periods, correcting its mistakes as comprehensively as possible.The paper consists of five parts: I: Introduction. This part mainly introduces the translator Xuanzang and different translations of Vimalakirti-Nirdesa-Sutra,as well as its research status and research contents, research methods, etc. II: The collation of exclusive versions of Shuo Wugoucheng Jing. Including wrong words, missing words, derivative words and inverted words. III:The comparison of Shuo Wugoucheng Jing and other different translations. Including synonymous words and difficult terms. Then we will summarize the language style of Shuo Wugoucheng Jing. IV: Research on the relationship between words of Shuo Wugoucheng Jing. This chapter includes variants, interchangeable words, ancient and modern words, traditional and simplified characters. V: Discussing the research of different characters in Chinese translated Buddhist sutra on the role of the large Chinese dictionary. This chapter mainly includes supplementary terms, supplementary meanings and documentary evidence in advance.
