Figurative Expressionism is based with phenomenology and influenced by orient philosophy at the figurative levels, and handles art works with the way of exaggeration and distortion to express the inner feelings of artists for the external world by the awareness of things in the visual perception, and coordinates the phenomenon and the content of the painting in order to seek the essence.The purpose of this paper is to study the extensive practice and application of figurative expressionism oil painting languages and skills. The paper has systematically discussed and analyzed the concept of figurative expressionism, the origin of representational painting in the west and China, the development situation and direction, representative and artistic characteristics and the era background. It hopes that we can think deeply by the review of the development process of figurative painting and its influence on Chinese figurative paintings.This paper mainly discussed the languages and skills of figurative expressionism oil-paintings and its wide application. The diversity of forms in figurative oil painting languages especially colors, brush strokes and composition are deeply expressed by the western figurative painting masters and Chinese figurative artists. The great expressiveness has the characteristics of bright, honest and fluent. In addition, lots of practices and applications are used in the style of flexible, variegated and daring in the oil painting skills, such as the methods of using brushwork, painting knife and so on.According to study the language and the skill of western classic representational paintings, we are guided to understand the similarities and differences between the eastern and western art, and make them intermingle and mutual learning with each other. We can sublimate the painting language and skill continuously, and create more outstanding works of our own unique feelings and aesthetic style.
