On Books’ Overall Design And People’s Sensory Response

For book Design,if we only attach importance to the design of visual elements and neglect the diversity of design of the shape,materials,format,this design is incomplete. Book design, as a kind of visual arts,has the diversity of aesthetic qualities. The designer should concern about the relationship between books and people’s sensory and the corresponding beauty of books from the perspective of people’s psychological and physiological needs. This paper tries to use knowledge in aesthetics,psychology and other related disciplines to study the overall design of books. Through analysis on some excellent design works,the importance of people’s physiology and psychology in books design and the design idea of "people oriented" from people’s sight,hearing,taste,smell and sensory aspects are stressed.
