Study On The Preposition In Shen Xian Zhuan

Ge Hong’s Shen Xian Zhuan is among the most famous works talking about thecelestial being in Wei and Jin dynasties. In terms of narration, spreading Taoismthought, and literary attainments, its value has surpassed both the previous works andthe later ones. As one of the Taoist classics, there are some Taoist terminologies inShen Xian Zhuan. At the same time, its language is very colloquial because it is one ofthe mystery novels in Six Dynasties period. Therefore, the study on the language useof Shen Xian Zhuan can show the characteristics of Taoist language in Wei Jin andSouthern and Northern dynasties period in some extent.This paper focuses on the prepositions in Shen Xian Zhuan, through the statistics,description, comparison and analysis of each preposition in the book, it reveals theirsyntactic and semantic functions, and studies the change of their usage anddevelopment to show the preposition system of Shen Xian Zhuan.This paper has four chapters in all.The first chapter is introduction. It introduces the novel of Shen Xian Zhuan,states the research value of the study on its preposition system, and reviews theresearch history of Chinese prepositions, especially the medieval Chineseprepositions.The second chapter is the main part of the article. It makes a detailed synchronicdescription about the prepositions in Shen Xian Zhuan. The research methods used aremainly exhaustive statistical method and quantitative and qualitative analysis method.The third chapter is a classification and summary based on the analysis in chaptertwo. It has two sections, the first section is the classification and summary of theprepositions in the book, and the second section is a comparative study between thepreposition system in Shen Xian Zhuan and the ones in ancient and medieval books.Chapter four is conclusion. It shows the usage of the prepositions in Shen XianZhuan in a form and sums up the characteristics of its preposition system.
