Investigation Of The Current Situation And Relationship Of The Self-esteem, Social Support, Life Satisfaction On Urban Community Elderly Residents

[Objective] To investigate the status of self-esteem,social support,life satisfaction and their influence factors among Nanning community elderly residents,and explore the relationship between self-esteem, social support and life satifaction.[Methods] 496 Nanning community elderly live at home were surveyed by using the questionnaire of general situation,self-esteem scale (SES),social support rating scale(SSRS) and life satisfaction index A scale(LISA).[Results] 1.The self-esteem score of Nanning community elderly (28. 74±2.26) was lower than that of Beijing,Shenyang,Shanxi,Hubei provinces (33.21±5.21),and the level of SES was low.The single factor analysis showed that there were significant differences in SES scores among differ-ent subgroups of age,marital status,educational level, self-reported health, self-reported economic condition,interest and living way(t或F=3.209,2.209,-2.332,8.552,13.465,-2.860,2.676; P<0.05)2.The total score of Nanning community elderly for average level (40. 13±6.29) washigher than the domestic norm(34.56±3.73;t=19.696, P<0. 001).And the scores of social support were significant different among dif-ferent subgroups of marital status,educational level,interests,self-reported e-conomic situationand living way (t或F=4.535,-4.122,-2.450,14.77,4.41; P<0.05)3.The life satisfaction of Nanning community elderly was of medium level(12.58±3.90).There were significant differences in life satisfaction among different subgroups of gender,marital status,education,hobbies,childr-en visit situation,self-evaluation of health,and economic conditions selfrep-orted (t或F=-2.601,2.109,-2.402,-2.972,2.419,16.817,50.324, P <0.05)4.A multiple regression analysis showed that the influencing factors of self-esteem were health status, economic conditions, subjective support and utilization of support(β=0.177,0.186,0.177,0.186, P<0.05), self-esteem and social support could positively predict the elderly life satisfaction (β= 0.11, 0.354; P<0.01).Mediation effect of self-esteem between social support and life satisfaction was significantly (P<0.01).[Conclusion] The self-esteem, social support and life satisfaction of urban community elderly residents were significant different in the different demographic variables.Social support could significantly predict the old levels of self-esteem, self-respect and level of social support could significantly predict the elderly life satisfaction, self-esteem in partial intermediary role between the social support in predicting life satisfaction. Increasing the degree of social support and self-esteem of old people is the positive selection to improve the level of the elderly’s life satisfaction.
