Study On The Contemporary Chinese Public Values

Public values are which people actually followed and practised, the changes in public values can reflect the changes of a society in a sense. In different period, people always have different values, these values will be display through the cultural phenomenon, with the form of physical changes, or changes in behavior, as long as we are able to grasp the cultural phenomenon which represent values, social meaning can in turn interpret through these phenomena. To research the changes of contemporary Chinese public values starting with the phenomenon of daily life, we can not only observed the values’ profound impact on the public life and understand the value choice in different stages, but also found the problems in the process of values change by comparing, so as to provide reference for the future healthy development of Chinese society.This study has carefully explored the changes of Contemporary Chinese Public Values taking tissue instead of handkerchief as an example, with the application of holographic knowledge theory, by the method of historical comparative analysis, non-structured observation analysis and documentary research. Research shows that cultural phenomenon and public values is the relationship between the two-way construction, is the relationship between the part and the whole. Cultural phenomenon always contains the specific content of the public values, Public values have a guiding significance on the formation of cultural phenomenon. The development and change of the cultural phenomenon can reflect the development and change of values. Through the analysis of public values such as science and technology value, consumption value, aesthetics value, leisure value, labor value, environmental value in tissue era and handkerchief era, we can find that overall characteristics of public values in handkerchief era are the coordination of man and nature, the integration of spirit and material, the unity of rights and obligations, but the general characteristics of public values in tissue era are heavy individual light overall, heavy material light spirit, heavy rights light duty. Tissue substitute handkerchief is not only an object instead of another object, but also a value instead of another value and a cultural pattern instead of another culture pattern. The “substitution phenomenon” can reflect the change of public values i.e. from the emotional to benefit, from the rational thinking to non-rational thinking, from the overall thinking to one-side thinking. We can foresee the future public values will not be like today which pay attention to only one side, but give a proper balance to both sides, pay more attention to the spiritual and emotional, pay more attention to the harmonious of human and nature. In addition, it is necessary to point out that the public values are usually unconsciously, in order to make the public values towards a more healthy, sustainable development, government intervention and guidance is also indispensable.
